How to solve level 9, step by step
- Answer the five clued rungs first. On the level 9 ladder they solve to WISE, WINE, WIRE, HIRE and HIKE.
- Now put those five in the one order where each word differs from its neighbour by a single letter. That forced order (the same puzzle read either way up) links them like this:
- WISE becomes WINE by changing the third letter from S to N.
- WINE becomes WIRE by changing the third letter from N to R.
- WIRE becomes HIRE by changing the first letter from W to H.
- HIRE becomes HIKE by changing the third letter from R to K.
- Line the five up that way and the ends unlock. The top answer WISH sits one letter from WISE (the fourth letter, H to E), and the bottom answer LIKE sits one letter from HIKE (the first letter, H to L). Solve those two clues to finish the climb.
