Each rung differs from the one above by exactly one letter. The highlighted tile is the letter that changes as you climb.

How to solve level 28, step by step

1. Answer the five clued rungs first. On the level 28 ladder they solve to BLOCK, BLACK, BLANK, PLANK and PLANT.
2. Now put those five in the one order where each word differs from its neighbour by a single letter. That forced order (the same puzzle read either way up) links them like this:
3. BLOCK becomes BLACK by changing the third letter from O to A.
4. BLACK becomes BLANK by changing the fourth letter from C to N.
5. BLANK becomes PLANK by changing the first letter from B to P.
6. PLANK becomes PLANT by changing the fifth letter from K to T.
7. Line the five up that way and the ends unlock. The top answer CLOCK sits one letter from BLOCK (the first letter, C to B), and the bottom answer PLANE sits one letter from PLANT (the fifth letter, T to E). Solve those two clues to finish the climb.
