Each rung differs from the one above by exactly one letter. The highlighted tile is the letter that changes as you climb.

How to solve level 30, step by step

1. Answer the five clued rungs first. On the level 30 ladder they solve to START, STARK, SPARK, SPARE and SPACE.
2. Now put those five in the one order where each word differs from its neighbour by a single letter. That forced order (the same puzzle read either way up) links them like this:
3. START becomes STARK by changing the fifth letter from T to K.
4. STARK becomes SPARK by changing the second letter from T to P.
5. SPARK becomes SPARE by changing the fifth letter from K to E.
6. SPARE becomes SPACE by changing the fourth letter from R to C.
7. Line the five up that way and the ends unlock. The top answer SMART sits one letter from START (the second letter, M to T), and the bottom answer SPICE sits one letter from SPACE (the third letter, A to I). Solve those two clues to finish the climb.
