Word Climb level 38 answer and walkthrough

A 6-letter ladder rated hard, level 38 of 40. Word Climb levels are identical for every player, so this solution always matches the ladder in your game.

The level 38 ladder

Each rung differs from the one above by exactly one letter. The highlighted tile is the letter that changes as you climb.

Level 38 clues and answers

  1. FATHER (top rung): Your male parent
  2. LATHER: Foamy soap suds
  3. BATHER: Someone taking a dip
  4. BATTER: Cake mix, or a baseball hitter
  5. BUTTER: Golden spread for your bread
  6. MUTTER: Grumble quietly to yourself
  7. GUTTER (bottom rung): The roof channel for rainwater

How to solve level 38, step by step

  1. Answer the five clued rungs first. On the level 38 ladder they solve to LATHER, BATHER, BATTER, BUTTER and MUTTER.
  2. Now put those five in the one order where each word differs from its neighbour by a single letter. That forced order (the same puzzle read either way up) links them like this:
  3. LATHER becomes BATHER by changing the first letter from L to B.
  4. BATHER becomes BATTER by changing the fourth letter from H to T.
  5. BATTER becomes BUTTER by changing the second letter from A to U.
  6. BUTTER becomes MUTTER by changing the first letter from B to M.
  7. Line the five up that way and the ends unlock. The top answer FATHER sits one letter from LATHER (the first letter, F to L), and the bottom answer GUTTER sits one letter from MUTTER (the first letter, M to G). Solve those two clues to finish the climb.
