  2. Numbers show how many mines touch that square.

📖 Full guide — objective, scoring & tips

🎯 Objective

Reveal every square that isn't hiding a mine — flag the ones you think are, and don't dig one up.

📊 How you score

Your score is elapsed time: the clock starts the instant you make your first dig (which is always guaranteed safe) and stops the moment the last safe square is cleared. Lower is better, and a loss records no time at all.

💡 Tips

  • Flag every mine touching a number first — it makes the safe squares around it obvious.
  • Tap a revealed number that already has all its mines flagged to auto-clear its neighbours (chording) — much faster than tapping one square at a time.
  • Work from the edges and corners inward; they usually have fewer neighbours to reason about.

FAQ

Is the first tap in Minesweeper ever a mine?

No — your first dig is always guaranteed safe, no matter where you tap first, so a run never ends on move one.

How is the score calculated in Minesweeper?

Your score is elapsed time: the clock starts on your first (always-safe) dig and stops the instant the last safe square is cleared. Lower time is better, and a loss records no time at all.

What is chording in Minesweeper?

Tapping a revealed number that already has all its touching mines flagged automatically clears every other neighbouring square at once — much faster than clearing them one by one.

How do I flag a suspected mine?

Long-press a square to flag it, or flip the 🚩/⛏️ toggle to flag by tapping instead of digging.
