How to solve level 18, step by step

1. Answer the five clued rungs first. On the level 18 ladder they solve to GRAZE, GRADE, TRADE, TRACE and TRACK.
2. Now put those five in the one order where each word differs from its neighbour by a single letter. That forced order (the same puzzle read either way up) links them like this:
3. GRAZE becomes GRADE by changing the fourth letter from Z to D.
4. GRADE becomes TRADE by changing the first letter from G to T.
5. TRADE becomes TRACE by changing the fourth letter from D to C.
6. TRACE becomes TRACK by changing the fifth letter from E to K.
7. Line the five up that way and the ends unlock. The top answer GRAVE sits one letter from GRAZE (the fourth letter, V to Z), and the bottom answer TRICK sits one letter from TRACK (the third letter, A to I). Solve those two clues to finish the climb.
